Course Overview

Planning for long term organisational success through the effective use of available resources remains a core responsibility for any Director. Delivering that success, following changes in the working practices and attitudes of colleagues at all levels is a new challenge for Directors to deal with. Maximising the benefits from these changes rests with the Directors of the organisation. This may include for example setting out the organisational policy on home working compared to work based working and the long term plan to gain most from each.

This 1 day workshop style course identifies the specific legal and other duties and responsibilities that are conferred on a Director immediately upon accepting their important position. It will also consider how through effective leadership, the inevitable changes brought about by the pandemic can be harnessed and focussed towards business success.

9:45 - 11:15 Directors obligations, duties & responsibilities (Legal duties, fiduciary duties, other obligations arising through other legislation, competition law, health & safety, employment law)

11:15 - 11:30 Coffee Break

11:30 - 12:00 Directing vs Managing identifying the differences between the roles

12:00 – 12:45 Leadership - what type of leader are you? (the range of leadership styles - where do you fit ? Self appraisal exercises. People v: task. Task, team and individual)

12:45 - 13:30 Lunch

13:30 - 14:15 Your decision making style - exercise are you tell, sell, consult or join?

14:15 - 15:00 The fundamentals of communication (verbal, vocal & non-verbal signals. Active listening techniques. Blocks to communication)

15:00 - 16:00 Developing an assertive style (What is assertiveness? Different styles of assertive behaviour and when to use them. Dealing with aggressive/non-assertive people)

16:00 - 16:30 So what is your most productive style? (How do people perceive you? How can you improve people's productivity through your actions?)

16:30 Action plans
