Well if the results of the PTP survey on difficult people are anything to go by - they are everywhere! We found that a massive 98% of people encounter difficult people on a regular basis at work. There are more difficult men than women in the workplace - although it has to be said not by a large margin and the middle-aged worker is likely to be more difficult than his or her younger or older counterparts. However it is good to see that more than half the sample say they are prepared to help their difficult colleagues - although few of us are confrontational - only 15% say this would be their approach in dealing with difficult colleagues. And why are people difficult? - the sample was very divided on this issue with the three most popular schools of thought being that they were "not team players", "were under too much pressure" or "felt insecure and lacked confidence in what they did".
