Leadership and the Space Simulator
For the first time the excitement of simulated space missions is available in the UK. The Challenger Learning Centre, the only one outside North America is a unique facility at the National Space Centre in Leicester. PTP in conjunction with M.A. Partnership have created a new and dynamic leadership programme.
The programme is based at the Space Centre and at its core uses the Challenger Simulation to bring alive the realities of leadership in an ever changing environment.
During the simulation, participants are given specific roles and responsibilities, ranging from Navigation to Medical. Individual delegates have their own console and monitor with real time information that requires immediate action. However space missions require effective leadership, organisation and co-operation.
Effective communication between the teams on Mission Control and the Space Lab is absolutely crucial to the mission. Mission oighly likely that in a facilitated event conflict will occur between individuals and/or groups. This session looks at typical sources of conflict and what to do to prevent them occurring manage them if they arise.)
Day 2
09:45 - 10:30 Handling Difficult Situations (This session looks at how to deal with challenges disruptions and resistance within the group.)
10:45 - 11:30 Practical Exercise - Handling Difficult Situations (The participants apply the lessons learned to handle difficult situations in a simulated facilitated event.)
11:30 - 12:30 The Facilitators Toolkit (Part 3)(Exploration of the next 3 facilitators skills9) Developing action plans10) Reviewing progress against anticipated outcomes11) Ensuring the momentum caused by a successful event is translated into further action)
12:30 - 13:30 Lunch
13:30 - 14:00 Creative Techniques (An introduction to the most effective creative techniques.)
14:00 - 15:15 Practical Exercise - Using Creative Techniques (Tning exercises, behavioural feedback, facilitated group discussions and presentations. The strengths and weaknesses of each individual's leadership style will be highlighted and delegates will be encouraged to develop strategies to improve their existing performance and to address areas identified for development.
Anyone wishing to improve their leadership and team building skills.

09:45 - 12:30 Introduction to "Challenger Simulation" At Challenger delegates take part in a realistic simulated space mission, with crew members becoming astronauts on a spacecraft, or mission controllers on Earth. This is not a game, or a flight-landing simulator; it is a test of leadership ability in a challenging and stimulating environment
