This introduction to management and supervisory skills course is designed to help delegates understand the initial skills and responsibilities that go with first line management responsibility. The course looks at a combination of skills and behaviours associated with management. Within any internal hierarchy certain behaviours and skill sets are required. In the case of
supervisors and managers, this frequently means a change of 'mind set'.
The objective of this course is to gain a better understanding of the purpose of the role and attitude towards the team.
Any person who has the responsibility to manage any number of staff at a functional level within an organisation. It is aimed at those that may need
to fully understand, or refresh their understanding, of where they fit into the business; how they are identified within their role; what is required of them in order to grow into the role; and how their attitude towards team objectives and team members affects performance.

Description:
"The value of this book is that it makes a worthwhile attempt to help the first-time manager. Combining training material with a storyline involving real people makes it a lot more digestible than a textbook." People Management "There are books on managing people by the truckload, but little specifically for the first time manager... The whole range of management knowledge, theory and practice is contained in this easily absorbed text." Business Executive.
Absolutely everybody in all types of organisation and business, professional, governmental, academic and has to make the critical leap to managing people for the first time. There are countless books on managing people but very little written from the perspective of the novice, someone faced with the daunting task of changing from following instructions to giving them.
First published by Pitman, the book instantly caught on and was widely adopted in businesses and in particular the public sector.
It has now been fully updated and revised to reflect recent changes in theory and practice.
